Challenge Friday: Supporting EdD Instructors and Advisors to Support Students

This Challenge Friday will focus on supporting program leaders to support students. Many CPED programs are designed to prepare leaders and change agents (rather than preparing researchers) and many are moving toward improvement science. How do you help faculty and other instructors/advisors—most of whom were trained as researchers—to support this different kind of doctoral program?

Dr. Tom Akiva is an Associate Professor in the department of Health & Human Development and Director of the Schoolwide EdD program. He received his PhD in Education and Psychology at the University of Michigan in 2012. Prior to this, Akiva spent nearly two decades working as a practitioner and consultant in the youth development field.
