Webinar: The Fundamentals of Improvement Science


This 1-hour webinar is an overview of Improvement Science and its applicability to problems of practice experienced by educators.  Facilitators will introduce the six principles of improvement science and then will describe the iterative improvement science process. 

Participants will receive a handbook, with tools associated with each principal and guidance on how to lead groups through the improvement science process. 
This webinar is designed for individuals with little or no previous experience with improvement science.

Dr. Brandi Hinnant-Crawford, Western Carolina University

Brandi Hinnant-Crawford, PhD is an Assistant Professor of Educational Research at Western Carolina University.  As a mixed-methods methodologist, she believes in the complimentary nature of quantitative and qualitative research, and seeks to use quantitative research in transformative ways (such as with improvement science).

A native of Goldsboro, North Carolina, Brandi entered the profession of education as a NC Teaching Fellow where she taught English in Wayne County Public Schools. Brandi has studied and worked in K-12 and higher education for the last 12 years, doing research, evaluation, and policy analysis with the University System of Georgia, Syracuse City School District, the Boston Education Collaborative, and the New Tech Network. Dr. Jacqueline Hawkins, University of Houston

Systems change comes in many guises: in Special Education change is often termed as Inclusion; and, in General Education change is often called School Reform/Restructuring. In each of these contexts, Dr. Hawkins’ research activities have involved the implementation and evaluation of effective interventions to promote pro-social behavior and improvements in academic achievement.
