Discover how our doctoral program serves the needs of community college partners while developing student leadership skills.  Learn about how teams of doctoral students engage in a year-long virtual service-learning project with community college partners and how assigned mentors support this work.  After hearing about our successes and challenges, engage in breakout room dialogue with the presenters and other colleagues about how to leverage partnerships to achieve program outcomes, especially those focused on social justice and equity.

Christine Harrington, New Jersey City University

Dr. Christine Harrington has worked in higher education for over 20 years. Currently, she is a Professor and Co-Coordinator of the Ed.D. in Community College Leadership program at New Jersey City University. Previously, she worked at Middlesex County College as a Professor of Psychology and Student Success and Director of their Center for the Enrichment of Learning and Teaching. She has authored numerous books on teaching and learning and student success, including Designing a Motivational Syllabus and Dynamic Lecturing and has presented at more than 50 colleges and universities across the nation.

Michael Sparrow, New Jersey City University

Dr. Michael Sparrow has served in faculty and higher education administration for more than a decade. Currently, he is an Associate Professor and Co-Coordinator of the Community College Leadership program at New Jersey City University. Mike got his start in higher education in classrooms around the greater Philadelphia area, teaching history courses at the University of Delaware, Rowan University, and Montgomery County Community College. Mike later transitioned into administration, starting as the Student-Veteran Services Coordinator at Ocean County College. Following OCC, Mike served as the Director of the Academic Success Center at Immaculata University. Eager to return to his Lehigh Valley and community college roots, Mike accepted a position at Northampton Community College, first as the Director of the Learning Center and then as the Associate Dean of Academic Success. Mike concluded his career at NCC as the Dean of Enrollment Management and Retention.
