Joi n the leaders of CPED's Improvement Science CIG, Professors Susan Carlile a nd Deborah Peterson, Portland State University, to examine improvemen t science tools to identify the processes for changing how their institutio n regards research in the EdD so that practitioners are equipped wit h the skills to engage in user-centered continuous improvement toward excel lence and equity.

Susan Carlile has over 50 years of experience i n K-12 education as a teacher, middle and high school principal, director o f curriculum and Instruction for a large, suburban school district near Por tland, Oregon. As an associate professor and program lead for the Education al Leadership and Policy Program, she has facilitated the leadership develo pment of over 600 school leaders, received 18 grants for her work, and pres ented and published in dozens of state, national and international forums o f leadership, including collaborating with change leadership researchers, A ntony Bryk, Louis Gomez and Paul LeMahieu, Improvement Science experts. Sus an Carlile has a BA in English and Fine Arts from the University of Califor nia, Berkeley, an MA in Curriculum and Instruction and Leadership certifica tion from the University of Oregon and graduate work in education at the Un iversity of Washington and Harvard University. Most recently, her work has focused on examining the issues facing women in leadership positions and st rategies for navigating the workplace to ensure gender, racial, ethnic, lin guistic and socio-economic equity in education.
Deborah Peter son has been recognized as an award-winning leader and professor, published author, career coach, and accomplished speaker. Deborah Peterson has served in roles as varied as preparing students for international inter -cultural experiences, high school department chair, elementary and high sc hool principal, human resources administrator, and university professor. Wi th over 40 years of experience as an educator, she has taught future teache rs, future administrators, current administrators and doctoral students, pr esented at state, national, and international conferences, received numerou s grants, and published on various aspects of leadership for equity. Debora h is an Associate Professor at Portland State University, with a BA from th e University of Washington and University of Oregon; MA from Portland State University, and EdD from Lewis and Clark College. She resides in Portland, Oregon, where she has successfully led numerous equity-focused initiatives in k-12 schools and at the university.
Professors Peterson and Carli le have published five chapters regarding Improvement Science and currently have two forthcoming books on equity and Improvement Science.
