Naming the Unspoken: Normalizing Imposter Syndrome in Online Ed.D. Programs

This session explores how one online Ed.D. program worked to normalize imposter syndrome among its doctoral students. After providing an overview of the program context and defining imposter syndrome, presenters will share the individual and program-level practices that have evolved to intentionally identify, name, and address this common experience. Participants will learn how program structures, messaging, and supports can be designed to normalize imposter feelings and foster a stronger sense of belonging and efficacy among doctoral students.

At the conclusion of this session, attendees will be able to:

1. Define imposter syndrome and its implications for Ed.D. students.
2. Analyze the ways imposter syndrome may present in online and hybrid doctoral learning environments.
3. Identify strategies that faculty members in Ed.D. programs can use to normalize imposter syndrome for students.
4. Identify strategies that can be incorporated into program design to normalize imposter syndrome for students.
