CPED Challenge FridayArcing Towards Justice: Reflections on Navigation of the EdD as Black Scholar PractitionersDate: Friday, January 30, 2026 Time: 1:00 - 2:00 PM ET Fishbowl technique will used to listen deeply to the lived experiences of six recently graduated Black EdD students as they navigated a three year EdD journey. The fishbowl technique would serve the following purposes: Center their narratives in spaces where they are often underrepresented; surface systemic barriers and micro-aggressions that quantitative data cannot capture; create empathy and accountability among faculty, administrators, and peers; and generate actionable insights for transforming policies and practices in graduate education. Essentially, the fishbowl technique will provide rich, human stories that have the potential to inform equity-driven change, specifically to improve pedagogical practices towards an even more inclusive, transformative learning experiences for current and future Black students. RSVP NowPresenters: Scott Lowrey Dr. Scott Lowrey is a settler Canadian scholarly practitioner, invited ally, and Assistant Professor (Standing Appointment) with Western University’s (London, Ontario, Canada) Doctor of Education (EdD) in Educational Leadership program. Scott was a recipient of Western University Alumni Award of Merit for Professional Achievement in 2018 and was inducted into McMaster University’s Alumni Gallery in 2014. Scott was recognized as one of Canada’s Outstanding Principals in 2005. Josh Canty Josh Canty is an educational leader committed to fostering fairness, belonging, and academic excellence in secondary education. After four years of service as Superintendent of Education with the Greater Essex County District School Board, he returned to his passion for school-based leadership as Principal of Walkerville Collegiate Institute in September 2023. His commitment to lifelong learning is reflected in his academic journey. He holds a Doctor of Education from Western University and a Master of Arts from the University of Windsor, which has strengthened his expertise in transformative leadership and student success. Beyond education, Josh is proud to have been inducted into the Windsor Essex Sports Hall of Fame in 2023, recognizing his contributions to athletics and community development. RSVP Now |
