Theory & Praxis

Activism and Diversity stock photo

The first guiding principle of CPED-influenced EdD program design is that the Education Doctorate is “framed around questions of equity, ethics, and social justice to bring about solutions to complex problems of practice.” This live webinar will focus on how faculty and students in one EdD program teach and apply social justice as a cross-cutting theme in both theory and methodology courses.

We will explore these questions:

  • In Programs: How does our curriculum teach students to be activist scholarly practitioners who critique and utilize symbolism to promote equity and inclusivity?

  • Through Inquiry: What is the role of inquiry as practice in preparing activist/social justice leaders?

  • In Courses: What coursework and assignments encourage/demand new patterns of interaction and activism?

Together, we will

  • Examine an institutional case study that uses social justice as a cross-cutting theme in theory and methodology courses

  • Engage in (fun) activities that professors use to promote social justice

  • Explore benefits, challenges, and applications for our EdD programs across the nation
