The Courage and Convictions to Continue with CRT

This Challenge Friday challenges participants to grapple with the legitimate threats and the legitimate opportunities, as it pertains to CRT within educational spaces. Specifically, participants will be challenged to conceptualize what equity, justice, and truth, look like ( in our respective doctorate programs), within this current contentious climate, around CRT.

Ronald W. Whitaker, II Ed.D 

Dr. Ronald W. Whitaker has been working in higher education for 12 years. Currently, he is the appointed Culturally Responsive Pedagogy Assistant Professor of Education, Assistant Dean, Director of District and School Relationships, and the Director of the Center for Urban Education, Equity, and Improvement (CUEEI) at Cabrini University. His research interest and published articles focus on the psychology of race and racism, issues related to diversity, equity, inclusion (DEI), culturally relevant and sustaining pedagogy, and the societal and educational disenfranchisement of African American males.

Alia Sheety, Ph.D. 

 

Dr. Alia Sheety has been working in Higher Education for over 25 years. She is currently a professor at Cabrini University and serves as the chair to the Educational Leadership department. Previously, she served as a full-time faculty member at the International Institute for Restorative Practices in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Her professional interests and research are rooted in comparative education, applying restorative practices in pedagogy and classroom management, alternatives to traditional classroom instruction including online learning, and educational leadership across cultures.

Beverly Bryde, Ed.D 

Dr. Beverly Bryde, Ed.D has been working in Higher Education for over 35 years. She currently serves as the Founding Dean for the School of Education and Chief Credentialing Officer at Cabrini University after serving on the faculty for 12 years. Previously, she served as a full-time, tenured faculty member at California Lutheran University in Southern California. Her professional interests and research are rooted in mission development, educational technology, classroom management, judicious coaching, and advocating for social justice in teacher education.
