2026 Call for CPED Membership

A Call to Institutions Committed to Strengthening the EdD

The Carnegie Project on the Education Doctorate (CPED) invites applications from institutions that are ready to engage deeply in the ongoing improvement of the Education Doctorate (EdD).

CPED is a professional learning organization of more than 160 schools of education committed to strengthening the professional practice doctorate through collective inquiry, collaboration, and sustained program improvement. Membership is not an endorsement of a finished program nor the adoption of a prescribed model. Rather, it reflects an institutional commitment—among deans, faculty, and program leaders—to engage actively in redesign, reflection, and shared learning.

We encourage institutions to apply if they are:

  • Actively examining the coherence, impact, or design of their EdD program
  • Prepared to commit institutional leadership and faculty to sustained improvement work
  • Willing to participate transparently in convenings, dialogue, and shared inquiry
  • Able to commit to a minimum three-year membership and active engagement

Institutions do not need to have a fully realized or “perfect” program to apply. However, they should have the authority, leadership support, and faculty capacity necessary to engage meaningfully in change efforts.

What to Expect in the Application Process

The CPED membership process is designed to understand institutional readiness for participation in a collaborative improvement network.

Applicants should expect to:

  • Submit a completed application and supporting materials outlining program design, governance, and improvement priorities
  • Demonstrate institutional commitment from the Dean and program leadership
  • Participate in a brief interview, if requested, to clarify readiness and engagement expectations.

Applications are reviewed by the CPED Membership Committee, which considers eligibility, institutional commitment, authority for program change, and readiness to engage in CPED’s professional learning community.

Admission decisions are communicated in June. New members begin July 1 and are required to participate in new member orientation and attend the annual Convening.
