Name of CPED-Influenced Program: Educational Leadership EdD
Program Description:
Leaders are called upon to have vision, a sense of the politics and financing of their institutions, means for making their vision come to life, and a sense of the spiritual and moral dimensions of their organizations. Whether leaders work in public, religious, or private schools, universities and college, business, or other settings, they need an understanding of how their roles and institutions fit into larger context, and how their actions affect colleagues, students, and the community in which they work. With good instructions, opportunities to learn the theories and practices of their art, and proper mentoring, leadership can be taught and expanded. The Division of Educational Leadership, Administration, and Policy (ELAP) offers graduate degree programs in educational administration at the master's and doctoral levels for future administrators, supervisors, principals, superintendent, and other leaders in public and nonpublic schools and faith-based settings, and for educators and trainers of adult in non-school settings, for example business, industry, government, hospitals, museums, and libraries. Within the general program and specialties in pre-k-12 education, higher education and church and religious organizations.

Admission Requirements:
Possess a master's degree, Submit two references and a personal statement, Submit scores either for the GRE or the MAT examination, Have a minimum 3.5 graduate grade point average  and a 3.0 at the undergraduate level, Three years of educational leadership experienced preferred, participate in an interview with faculty.

  • How do students use their dissertation work in practice following graduation?: Students use their dissertation by disseminating information to a targeted audience of their choice (i.e., an organization or journal of practice).  
  • Does your dissertation process take into account impact or potential impact on the field? If so, can you measure the impact?: Our dissertations do take into account the impact in the field. Currently, we are still working on how to measure the impact of our dissertations.
  • Is there a set of core courses? What do they consist of?: As of now, we are currently working on a set of core courses as we restructure our courses.

  • Did practitioners advise on the program design process? How so?: Practitioners were part of the program design process. They provided their expertise at multiple retreats we have had over the last couple of years.

  • Was there anything unique about your program design process?: The Program design was unique because it brought together professors of practices along with tenured/tenure track professors to discuss the new EdD program.
