Current Mission/Goals: The Doctor of Education Degree (EdD) in Educational Leadership at Fayetteville State University is an innovative program designed to provide doctoral students and doctoral candidates with an interdisciplinary focus on transformative leadership by exploring theories, research, best practices, and internship experiences necessary to successfully create 21st century, inclusive, equitable and 'high achievement' learning environments.

Its mission is to prepare 21st century scholar practitioners leaders - who are global minded and cultural competent educators for a better world. Our doctor of education program is defined primarily by its pledge to continuous innovation, opportunity and diversity and by its commitment to prepare successful responsible global lifelong learners, who are hired, promoted, and recognized by their ability to positively transform their communities and contribute to better societies not only locally in North Carolina, but also beyond.

Expected Program Outcomes:

The courses are currently closely aligned with CPED Framework in such a way that experiential learning, assessments and goals seek to prepare students to be scholar practitioners in our ever-changing world.

 Expected Student Outcomes:

Upon completion of the program students should:

  • Demonstrate the knowledge and ability to facilitate the development, articulation, implementation, and stewardship of a school or district's vision of learning for diverse schools that is grounded in social justice concepts.
  • Promote a positive school culture, and provide an effective instructional program that is culturally responsive to the needs of diverse students.
  • Demonstrate expertise in building a school community that promotes a safe, efficient, and effective learning environment that leads to effective management, operations, and resources.
  • Demonstrate the ability to use a wide range of data to develop culturally appropriate strategies to collaborate with families and other community members in order to respond to diverse community interests and needs.
  • Demonstrate a strong theoretical understanding of leadership to promote the success of all students by acting with integrity and in an ethical manner;
  • Demonstrate the ability to apply theoretical knowledge in the five aforementioned learning outcomes with a specific focus on leadership theory, multicultural education, culturally responsive teaching, social justice leadership, student learning and achievement, and organizational theory to transform school so that all students can achieve and learn at high levels
