Design Phase: Developing and Designing

Program: School-wide Doctorate in Educational Leadership and Administration

Current Mission/Goals: The mission statement for the University of Mary EdD is as follows: “A doctoral program designed to prepare educational leaders for university teaching and PK-12 administration and academic leadership.” In addition, the University of Mary’s candidates are also deeply connected to the university graduate competences, which include scholarship, communication, professional distinction, and moral courage. These two philosophical ideals coalesce in the realization of the program goals and candidate outcomes.

Program Redesign Timeline:

The University of Mary has in place, multiple, periodic and comprehensive evaluation of all aspects of the EdD program to continuously inform the improvement of their redesign.

Expected Program Outcomes:

The EdD program expects to support educators who seek to become Servant-Leaders in the realm of education. Upon completion of the program students should be capable of:

  • Demonstrating collaborative visionary leadership and decision-making skills needed to engage others in meaningful change.
  • Demonstrating a commitment to the development of the professional and personal skills needed to lead effective educational institutions.
  • Demonstrating the ability to conduct and evaluate educational research for the purpose of developing thorough understanding of the teaching and learning environment.
  • Understanding the importance of a personal code of ethics.
