Our Duquesne colleagues have put together a comprehensive agenda with a nice balance of hard work and good social fun. Please read the detailed outline before arrival.
Duquesne and CPED will provide the following meals:
Thursday: Breakfast, Lunch, Breaks & Dinner at the Heinz History Center
Friday: Breakfast, Break, & Box Lunch
**Participants are responsible for their dinner on Wednesday night**
A detailed schedule based on the Agenda will be provided to all participants. Registration, lodging, and transportation information is provided on the PCED website. Lest you fear that other activities-essential to a successful convening but not included in the outline-have been ignored…
The convening will start at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, October 21st. The schedule includes a reception at the conclusion of the Wednesday afternoon segment. You are free for dinner on Wednesday evening. If you are familiar with Pittsburgh, you probably have a couple of restaurants-and maybe some great "joints"-in mind and we encourage you to share your favorites. If you are unfamiliar with the city, there are many guides online. We recommend the website called urbanspoon.
The website allows you to look for different types of eating establishments in the different neighborhoods of Pittsburgh. The Marriott is downtown (2 blocks from campus), but a short cab ride can get you to several of the "Top Neighborhoods" listed on urbanspoon. In addition to downtown, of course, the closet "Top Neighborhoods" include the Strip District (yes, there's a story), Lawrenceville, South Side (not South Hills), and Mt. Washington (with spectacular views). A slightly longer but still very reasonable ride from the Marriott can get you to some of the "East End" neighborhoods such as Bloomfield, Shadyside, Squirrel Hill, and Oakland (near the University of Pittsburgh).
Thursday's schedule includes a continental breakfast, lunch, breaks, and a reception and dinner at the Heinz History Museum (in the Strip District) on Thursday evening.
A continental breakfast and box lunch will be provided on Friday, when we adjourn by 12 noon.
Our goal for the Pittsburgh Convening is ambitious, but we are confident that we will be able to achieve it. We are confident because the agenda is the result of much collective and collaborative effort: the efforts of all the Palo Alto participants who engaged in the discussion of principles; our colleagues at the Neag School of Education at the University of Connecticut who planned and guided the session and then summarized it; the agenda planning group and several of the working groups at Duquesne; the CPED Advisory Group, and the CPED Program Director and Project Director.
We are excited to welcome the Carnegie Project on the Education Doctorate to Pittsburgh.
