University of Vermont's Principles of Best Practice

UVM’s Educational Leadership and Policy Studies EdD program is guided by the following Principles of Best Practice:

Principle 1: Doctoral education emphasizes an inter-professional cohort model which recognizes the inherent value of collaboration and of the diverse knowledge, skills, dispositions, and experience that contribute to group efficacy and individual learning.

Principle 2: Doctoral education examines critical questions of diversity, equity, and social justice in order to prepare educational leaders who can construct and apply knowledge to make a positive difference in the lives of individuals, families and communities.

Principal 3: Doctoral education is grounded in a professional knowledge system that directly links theory and rigorous research inquiry to contextual problems of practice.

Principle 4: Accountability systems insure that candidates achieve high professional standards and develop habits for continuous improvement.
